All Flashcards
What is the difference between Power and Energy?
Power: The rate at which energy is used or transferred. | Energy: The capacity to do work.
Compare a 40W bulb and a 100W bulb in terms of brightness.
40W Bulb: Less bright, consumes less power. | 100W Bulb: Brighter, consumes more power.
What is the definition of electric power?
The rate at which electrical energy is transferred, converted, or dissipated within a circuit.
Define electric potential difference.
The difference in electric potential between two points, measured in volts (V).
What is current?
The rate of flow of electric charge, measured in amperes (A).
Define resistance.
A measure of the opposition to the flow of electric current in a circuit, measured in ohms (Ω).
What is the unit of power?
Watt (W)
What is the effect of increasing the current (I) through a resistor?
Increases the power dissipated by the resistor (P = I^2 * R).
What happens to the power dissipated if the voltage (ΔV) across a resistor increases?
The power dissipated increases (P = (ΔV)^2 / R).
What happens when a resistor is added in parallel to an existing resistor in a circuit?
The total resistance decreases, and the total current in the circuit increases.
What is the effect of increasing resistance in a circuit with constant voltage?
It decreases the current flowing through the circuit and reduces the power dissipated.
What is the effect of increasing the voltage across a light bulb?
The light bulb will shine brighter because it dissipates more power.
